The county government of Nakuru will increase budget allocation to persons living with disability to cater for all their needs.
Speaking on Saturday while receiving the mobility devices from the Tegemeo Disability Group in his office, Governor Kinuthia Mbugua said that the county government will increase the current Sh55 million, which is currently being allocated to persons with disabilities in the next financial budget.
“Those people who are physically challenged usually play a very vital role in our societies. The county government of Nakuru is ready to ensure that they all play an important role when it comes to the management of this county. This is why we have decided to increase their budget and this will start from our next financial budget,” said Mbugua.
Mbugua went on to say that the county government will also in turn buy all the products and goods which are made from such people.
“I urge the persons with disabilities to ensure that they utilise their talents so as they can also improve their standards of living,” added Mbugua.
Phyllis Njeri, the chairperson of people living with disability said that they only require support so that they can do what they can.
“We require support so that we can do what we can. Some of us are capable of doing a lot of things, but due to lack of support, we end up wasting our talents. We are able to make a number of goods and products which we can sell and make an income from it,” added Njeri.
