Calls for a concerted effort from stakeholders in rehabilitating street children in Nakuru dominated the International Women Day in Nakuru.
Leaders asked the government to use devolved funds to empower children born out of street families.
Nakuru County Executive Committee for Gender, Youth and Social welfare Halima Gababa appealed to needy families with school going children to seek the assistance of the county government, Constituency Development Fund and the Affirmative Action Fund for enrollment in full scholarship programs that will enable them to acquire education.
Gababa said education will empower such children to live better lives in future.
She also called on the youth in the streets to register with county government and get scholarship into polytechnics.
"Children and youth on the streets have been earmarked to benefit from an empowerment program in a move aimed rehabilitating street children and families,” said Gababa.
