The county government of Kisumu is set to relocate its offices from the current premises to a different location and building.

County Secretary Humphrey Nakitare said that the move is aimed at reducing conflicts between the governor’s office and that of the county commissioner.

Speaking to this reporter on Thursday, the county secretary noted that there have been wrangles and conflicts between the office of the governor and that of the county commissioner based on superiority between the two offices.

“The governor feels he is the county boss as he was elected by residents while the county commissioner feels superior on the basis that he was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta,” said Nakitare.

He added, “It is due to these wrangles that we will be forced, as a county government, to move from our current building to a different location,” he said.

Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga also said that the county government will set aside funds towards the construction of new county government offices at a location that is centrally placed within the town.

“We are going to allocate funds towards this project as soon as possible,” she said.
