Shops and restaurants selling alcoholic drinks in Uasin Gishu county will undergo fresh vetting before being given licenses for their operations.
The sellers will be subjected to new vetting procedures following the new guidelines drafted by the county government and security agencies in the region.
County secretary Peter Lelei said that the licenses will only be issued to the businesses that abide by the set rules and regulations.
"Due to increased illegal alcohol dealers in the county, from next year new guidelines will take effect and all dealers will be vetted before allowed to operate. This will help curb the illegal business that has taken roots in the county," said Lelei.
Lelei threatened that those who will be found violating rules will be arrested and charged in court.
"No one is above the law. The set alcohol rules must be followed failure to which operates found operating illegally will be arrested," he stated.
He said the move will help restore unity and peace because most families have separated due to alcohol drinking.
