Residents of Ruaka have called on the county government of Kiambu to address the sewerage drainage issues.
Speaking today at Ruaka Shopping Centre, during the purging a blocked sewerage tunnel, the residents said that there could be a health crisis if the county government failed to address the menace.
Led by Joshua Wainaina, the residents said that the county government had neglected the sewerage drainage in the area.
“We decided to volunteer and unblock this sewerage tunnel after our appeals hit a rock,” said Wainaina.
Wainaina also said that the residents should support the county government in maintaining cleanliness.
“It's the responsibilities of residents to support the county government in its effort of making the centre clean “, said Wainaina.
He said that a clean environment attracts investors and urged all stakeholders to make a concerted effort towards maintaining the cleanliness of the centre.
“No one will want to invest in a filthy environment because no client will come to his business,” said Wainaina.
John Ndichu , one of the volunteers urged the county government to allocate more resources in tackling the issue of sewerage drainage.
“The county government should invest heavily in sewerage system to enable our businesses to thrive”, said Ndichu.
Ndichu said that more equipment like trucks should be purchased to address the issue.
