Uasin Gishu government has been urged to dialogue with Eldoret hawkers to stop the cat and mouse game that has been witnessed in the Eldoret central business district in the recent past.

CIPK chairman Abubakar Bini said this is the remedy for the misfortunes currently facing hawkers.

“As religious leaders, we are not happy with the way hawkers are being handled and we urge county government led by governor Jackson Mandago to dialogue with hawkers to end this stalemate,” he said in Eldoret town, Saturday.

“We support the work the county askaris are doing of cleaning Eldoret town and its environs but they should do it in a humane way without infringing anyone’s right basing on their tribal or political affiliations,” he added.

He, however, condemned county askaris for brutally handling the hawkers to an extent of stepping and throwing their fruits.

“We were shocked when we saw county cars steeping on fruits, it is a curse and might lead to drought. Surely how can you step on fruits while some people are sleeping hungry, this is uncalled for and such officers should be arrested and charged,” noted Boit.
