There have been several incidents in which children have drowned in the place that is supposed to help the residents fight water shortage.

Area Chief Pius Nzioka spoke on Sunday during a service at Tala town, he pleaded with the county government to install a perimeter wall around the dam.

“Many children in this area have drowned while playing or fetching water. The latest case was that of an eleven years old Standard 6 pupil who drowned on Saturday evening. The county government should save us from losing more children by building a wall around the dam as a matter of urgency,” said Nzioka.

The boy was said to have drowned in the dam on Saturday evening and though the body had not yet been found professionals were still searching for it.

Nzioka further called upon the parents to take care of their children and educate them to take precautions instead of playing around dangerous places.

“I urge the parents to take caution before the county government starts building the wall. Always supervise your toddlers and never let the young ones go near the dam as we all know it’s big and wide, so it is difficult to save the child once they are inside,” Nzioka said.
