Kisii County Government through the Disaster Management Department has been urged to put measures in place to ensure the safety of its residents during the El Nino rains.

Kisii Business Community led by chairman Walter Kinyondi said there are many roads in the county which need repair before the rains expected to pour down early October start.

According to Kinyondi, if the rains start before the roads are repaired, then the transport would be in a big a mess.

“If it starts raining before these roads are repaired it is going to be hard for us business people as we use them get goods to the market,” said Kinyondi in Kisii on Tuesday.

He also said some bridges too need urgent attention.

“There are some bridges like the Nyakomisaro Bridge near Storm hotel that is always in a pathetic statebwhen it rains. What happens when we are expecting El Nino?” posed Kinyondi.

"It is so ironical to wait for a disaster to happen then you can respond, we need action before it happens,” he said.

This comes after the county government announced it had measures in place that can help residents during the rainy season.
