The County Government of Nyamira has come under severe criticism following deteriorating conditions of a number of feeder roads in Magombo area in Kitutu Masaba constituency.

This comes at a time when the region is experiencing long rains that have rendered most feeder roads impassable, after a long dry spell that threatened agricultural activities in the region.

But on Sunday, a group of Magombo residents directed their woes to the county government, accusing it of discrimination in terms of roads construction in the area.

They said most constituencies (West Mugirango, Borabu and North Mugirango) have been developed, leaving Kitutu Masaba behind in terms of infrastructural development.

“The roads here are impassable and this makes it difficult for us to carry out our farming activities. The county government has taken long time to deal with this crisis despite constant reminders from our elected leaders,” said Alfred Ongeri.

“We really feel Kitutu Masaba is being left behind because we have witnessed significant progress in other constituencies. Development should be equal without discrimination,” he added.

However, Chairman of Finance committee in the County Assembly Ken Nyameino defended the county government by saying programmes were in place to allocate more money for roads repair.

“I understand their concern but the issue of prejudices should not arise. The county government is doing all it can to invest in infrastructure hence they should not worry at all,” he said.
