Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange has told the Kiambu County government to stop playing with people's minds over the issue of levies paid to them by businessmen.

Speaking to businessmen at Muchatha in his Kiambaa Constituency yesterday, Koinange said the levies the business persons have been paying will remain that way saying that the new rates are yet to be gazetted.

This is contrary to what the Kiambu County Finance Department had reported early this week as they had said that the new rates had been gazetted.

"Why is the county government cheating people that they have gazetted the new rates? There is nothing like that and what I would ask them is to revert to original rates or gazette the new ones they are talking about," said Koinange.

Koinange warned the businessmen against accepting to be duped saying that as far as the payment of the aforementioned levies is concerned the status quo remains.

The MP further asked the county government to employ permanently people on contracts who have worked for more than four years saying it is unfair to have employees for that long on contracts.

On Wednesday, the High Court allowed Kiambu County government to continue collecting new fees which were introduced in the 2014/15 Finance Bill.

Jomofaster Welfare Association, a group of traders from Madaraka and Jamhuri markets and owners of residential houses in Thika town had filed the case challenging the Finance Act.

The group of slaughterhouse owners had moved to court in a bid to block the county government from implementing the 2014 Finance Act.
