Ekerenyo Ward representative Thadeus Nyabaro has called on the county government of Nyamira to fully support dairy farmers in the county to enable them realise better returns.
Speaking during his visit to a local dairy farmers group in Ekerenyo on Wednesday, the MCA claimed that the county government has put more emphasis on crop farmers by giving them free pesticides and subsidised fertilizers while neglecting dairy farmers.
Mr Nyabaro said dairy sector is one of the most lucrative ventures and farmers can make good income if only they get enough support from the county government, by marketing their produce and looking for new markets for them.
“I will move a motion so that allocation of more funds can be made to the dairy sector in Nyamira so that our farmers can get high income just like other farmers in the county,” he said.
He noted that dairy farmers were facing challenges such as the high cost of animal feeds hence digging into their profits.
He called upon youths in the area to form more Saccos to secure loans from the county government so that they can empower themselves economically.
