Siaya County government has been petitioned to include issues that affect persons with disability in its County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP) 2018/2023.

Director of a human rights organization called the Community Initiative Action Group (CIAG) Mr. Chris Owala, says that issues of disability need to be incorporated into the CIDP to enable proper budgeting on matters affecting persons with disability in the county.

He lamented that the county has not effectively been handling issues affecting persons with disability because they were never considered during the formulation of the county 2013/2018 CIDP.

Mr. Owala cited for instance that a lot of public utilities including offices and sanitation facility such as toilets in the county do not meet the required standards just because issues affecting persons with disability had not been factored in the previous CIDP.

The Director added that a lot of information usually pass the persons with disability during awareness creation meetings due to lack of provision for sign language interpreters, and his he says can only solved if their issues are considered in the CIDP.

Mr. Owala, who was speaking during a stakeholder’s meeting at a hotel in Siaya town, revealed therefore that as an organization they are planning to hold meeting with the county government to push for their consideration.

He also encouraged the persons with disability to always ensure they attend all public forums and air their opinions on matters of development especially during public participation gatherings.
