County Governments have been asked to create county parastatals in a bid of eliminating unemployment among the youth in the country.
Athi River Township MCA Michael Mutua said that Kenya has massive unemployment because the government has left it to the private sectors to create jobs across the nation.
"There is need for creation of county parastatals if both national and county governments are committed to completely eliminating increased unemployment among youth in this country," said Mutua.
Mutua said private sectors alone can not solve unemployment problem since they do not have enough resources to create employment opportunities.
"As far as we are creating enabling environment for foreign investors, let the county governments also invest through county parastatals and create employment to Kenyans," said Mutua.
The MCA said attitude that counties lack capacities to run and manage parastatals is negative notion and drawback to the nation, arguing the systems had effectively worked in countries like Singapore and Dubai.
Mutua said counties have adequate capacities in terms of resources to manage parastatals and therefore only political good will and sanity among leaderships of the county governments is needed for the system to work.
Mutua said county governments should minimize utilization of all funds allocated to them by the treasury and instead have surplus of the fund through alternative sources instead of relying on allocations from the treasury.
He called on the other governors to consult Machakos Governor, Alfred Mutua whom he said had set effective management systems in his government, leading to his outstanding development track records as recently reported by a research firm poll.
