The County government of Kisumu has donated over 100 mattresses to students of Onjiko High School whose dormitory was razed down last week.
Chief of staff Patrick Ouya in the office of Governor Anyang Nyong’o said the donation was sent to the school after receiving the news.
Ouya said Governor Nyong’o made the order.
“When he heard about the school fire he directed that the donation is made to the school. Nyong’o holds dear this school which has produced great minds,” he said.
Ouya announced that the governor also promised to end in more support to the school in terms of monetary.
He further said that the county government will give food stuff to help form for students during their examination period.
“Next week, the county government will deliver 50kg of sugar, 100 loaves of bread for the form four students,” he said.
He spoke on Saturday as he delivered the mattresses to the school while in the company of Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo, who is a former student of the school.
Other notable former students of Onjiko include Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor, Seme MP James Nyikal, the late former Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Robert Ouka, and the controversial politician, Miguna Miguna.
