[Photo Mombasa Sub County Administration]Officers from Mombasa County's Department of Trade, Tourism and Investments on Monday night commenced a crackdown on unlicensed nightclubs, bars, casinos and lounges. The team lead by Chief Officer Abdulwahab Mbarak visited several night hangouts and found that many were operating without licences and contravening with set laws.Notices of closure were served to those found culpable.The move comes few days after Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa issued a stern warning to owners of stripper clubs in the region.Citing Mombasa, Marwa ordered for the immediate closure of four stripper clubs in Nyali but withheld their names.According to him, most of the strippers in the closed clubs were of Nepal and Indian origin.He said such entertainment joints erodes moral values and should not be allowed to operate, and further warned that more clubs would be shut down once investigations are completed."Clubs that have strippers dancing naked to be closed," he said on Friday.Addressing the press in Mombasa, Marwa also warned that all shisha joints would be closed.He affirmed national government's commitment to ensuring security and the rule of law in the coast region, adding that security had been enhanced in the entire region.
