This comes after reports showed that the disease has been a challenge to the county health ministry.

Addressing the press after meeting with health officials from all the five sub-counties on Thursday, Magara said his department has successfully reduced the malaria cases from 150,000 in 2011 to 58,000 cases this year.

Magara further urged residents to sleep under mosquito treated nets to help minimise transmissions, further saying pregnant mothers and children under 5 were at risk of getting the disease.

"I urge Nyamira residents to ensure they sleep under mosquito treated nets to help reduce cases of transmission because pregnant women and children below five years are at risk of contaminating the disease," said Magara.
