Nyamira County Government has employed 600 youths from various wards through its empowerment programme as it seeks to adrress joblessness.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday in Nyamira town, county youths officer Thomas Ongeri said the devolved unit has employed 600 youths; 30 from each ward who will dig trenches, clean up various markets and also be involved in roads construction among other duties.
“We have many unemployed youths in the county but we have hired 600 who will earn Sh8, 000 every month. We will also advise them on how to spend the money and save for the future ,” said Ongeri.
“After every six months, we will release them and employ others because we want all youth to benefit from the county government as it seeks to address poverty,” added the youths officer.
County residents lead by George Morara lauded the county for the programme saying it will help improve living standards of the jobless youths.
