Nairobi County residents will now enjoy 24-hour medical services at 18 health centres.
This emerged after a review on the hospitals' working hours in a move meant to enhance health service delivery.
According to a directive from Health CEC, Bernard Muia, all county hospitals and health centres have been urged to commence round-the-clock medical services immediately.
‘'Due to popular public demand, the Nairobi County government has responded promptly and is extending operation hours in all high-volume health centres to 24 hours. Other hospitals within the city-county shall also review their hours of operation,’' said Muia.
Facilities offering maternity services will now provide outpatient services throughout day and night hours.
Muia directed heads of various county health facilities to come up with their complete duty roster detailing names of doctors and nurses operating during the additional hours.
The health centres to be included in the 24-hour services include Dagoretti, Kibera, Kamukunji, Langata, Westlands, Starehe, Ruaraka, Roysambu, Embakasi, Makadara and Kasarani hospitals.
Muia, however, warned health workers who report to duties late and leave early stating that the county had already put measures to ensure full commitment to work.
