The Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (Gowasco) will improve water supply for its residents as it seeks to address water shortage in the county.Garissa Water CeC Issa Dubow said the county is faced with an acute water shortage that has forced many residents to fetch dirty water from River Tana, as most parts of Garissa town outskirts do not receive any water at all.Speaking in Garissa Town, Mr Dubow said the ongoing water rehabilitation works in the county will improve water supply, adding that changes like reshuffling the company’s top management will end the crisis.He said that the water company will address issues affecting the residents by ensuring service delivery is improved and that the residents get access to clean water.The executive added that the water company will open four zonal offices in Waberi, Iftin, Galbet and Garissa Township with technical and complaint response teams to ease congestion at the head office.“The management which is supposed to deal with policy issues and ways to improve critical services are using most of their time solving problems meant for technical staff,” said Dubow.Garissa Governor Ali Korane promised to restore water services in the town in his first 100 days in office.In November, Mr Dubow had promised to end the perennial water shortage, harvest rainwater, build dams across the country and develop a strategic plan for resources in the drought-stricken region.
