Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua on Thursday said that the county government has set a side Sh 4.5 billion to cater for water project.
Mutua noted that the State has supported the vision of installing tapped water in every household in the county.
“We had set aside Sh 3.5 billion to install water in every household in the county. The National Government has supported our project with Sh 1.5 billion,” said Mutua.
Mutua was speaking during a second people’s park ground breaking ceremony at Katangi which is expected to boost local tourism in the county.
“We want to make Katangi and the whole of Machakos County a tourist hub. This will help us to generate funds which will enable us transform and improve our peoples’ lives,” said Mutua
Mutua promised to build people’s park in every ward within the county.
Elsewhere, Maruba dam has declined to water Machakos Peoples Park due to water shortage in the dam.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Machakos Water and Sewerage Company director Raphael Mutie said that it is against the law to continue watering the park while there is foreseen danger.
“The irrigation has been stopped for the well-being of Machakos town residents. The residents rely on the same source for domestic water,” said Mutie.
Meanwhile plans of sinking three boreholes in the county have kicked off to address frequent water shortages in the vast area.
