The County government of Nakuru has moved to contain the spread of foot and mouth disease in Rongai Constituency.

County Executive in charge of Agriculture Immaculate Maina said they have launched a vaccination programme in all the wards in the sub-county.

"Officers and veterinary doctors are working day and night to ensure that all animals in the affected area are vaccinated. We are targeting both the affected and those not affected yet," Maina said.

She spoke on Saturday after inspecting vaccination exercise in Mosop ward.

The deadly disease has killed more than 30 cows in Visoi, Mosop, Menengai West and Soin wards.

County Agriculture Chief Officer Enos Amuyunzu said the affected area has been quarantined until the situation is contained.

"We will not allow animals leave Rongai sub-county or enter from the neighbouring Narok and Kajiado counties," he said.

Amuyunzu said the restriction would help to prevent spread of the disease to other areas.
