According to the Budget and Appropriation committee, the county is in need of about Sh1.1 billion that is required for allowances and salaries for its 155 staff, which include 74 Ward representatives.

According to Bahati Ward Representative, and a member of the committee, Peter Mwangi, the remaining Sh207 Million is hardly enough to sustain the activities of the assembly for the next six months.

The Controller of Budget has limited this year’s allocation to Sh560 million, further complicating the management of the assembly’s recurrent expenditure. The budget is said to be held in priority for debate when the assembly commences on February 10.

Its workers are yet to receive January salaries, and the House is trying to adjust its supplementary budget to address the matter.

“By March, there will be no money. That means, there will be no going around meeting the constituents for consultation, no salaries, no sitting allowances and no legal fees,” said Mwangi.
