[Photo- the-star]A total of 146 applicants who applied for the position of chief officers in Garissa County have been interviewed by the county's public service board. This was revealed by area governor Ali Korane, who said that this was one of the most competitive positions that were characterized by intense lobbying by those for and against certain candidates. Speaking at a Garissa hotel during the swearing in of the remaining three CeCs who included Issa Yarrow (livestock), Issa Dubow (Water) and Habiba Nasib 9Education), Korane said that he found it strange the lobbying that comes for the positions. In the previous administration, Garissa county had 16 chief officers, but the governor has the discretion to either increase or reduce the number. “My biggest challenge will be picking the chief officers. some people started a long time ago coming to me either wanting something for somebody or for themselves while others come pleading very seriously that I should not consider some individuals. I find this very strange but that is the way it is,” said Korane to the amusement of those in attendance. Korane said that he has already received the list of the candidates and suitability from the PSB, and will present their names in the assembly next week for vetting. Meanwhile, Korane further revealed that he had engaged the services of a private advertising company which will conduct interviews for candidates who have applied for the position of county secretary. He dispelled rumors that there are preferred candidates for the job saying a crucial docket, it will be subjected competitive process with a view of coming up with the right candidate for the job. He said after the interview, the company will forward the names to the governor for selection who will subsequently present the same to the board. “I want to assure everyone that we will work as a team and strive towards achieving our dream of transforming our county,” said Korane. The swearing-in brings the number of those who have been sworn in to2 nine.
