The Vihiga county Public Service Board is set to begin conducting a headcount of all staff.

The exercise is meant to weed out ghost workers.

The exercise scheduled to be conducted at the Mbale Municipal grounds will run until September 6, the Star reports.

During the exercise, all workers are required to avail their original ID card, letter of appointment, latest payslip and academic documents.

According to governor Wilbur Otichilo, a casual audit of the human resources showed wanton wastage.

He said the larger neighboring Nandi county has a workforce of only 800, while Vihiga has 3,747 workers.
