Residents in all the seven sub-counties in Kisumu have been invited for public participation meetings between January 31 and February 09, 2018.In a notice dated January 24, 2018, authored by Kisumu County Secretary Dr Olang’o Onudi, members of the public have been urged to attend the public participation meetings and give their views.“This is to inform the public that the County Government of Kisumu invites you to Public Participation on County Environment Health Sanitation and Hygiene Policy,” reads part of the notice. “Please come and give your views,” the notice adds.The Public participation meetings will be held as follows:January 31, 2018: Kisumu East – GitaFebruary 01, 2018: Kisumu West – DC’s office OjollaFebruary 02, 2018: Kisumu Central – Kisumu SocialFebruary 05, 2018: Seme – CDF CompoundFebruary 07, 2018: Nyando – Ahero Multipurpose February 08, 2018: Muhoroni – Chemelil hallFebruary 09, 2018: Nyakach – CDF Office.Public participation is an integral part of the formation of laws both at the national and county level.Article 196(1) of the constitution reads as such: A county assembly shall— (a) conduct its business in an open manner, and hold its sittings and those of its committees, in public; and (b) facilitate public participation and involvement in the legislative and other business of the assembly and its committees.
