This comes shortly after the suspension of several county officers by the Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua over heaps of garbage in Machakos City.

The governor last week suspended the Machakos Town Sub County’s administrator Patrick Manthi, the county’s director of garbage collection and disposal directorate Muema Wambua; the Machakos Town garbage collection manager Paul Mutunga and the supervisor of the garbage area of Machakos CBS-Eastleigh section Jackson Mutuku.

However, Kitheka says that the officers were hardworking but there were inadequate vehicles to facilitate their work. He added that some of the few vehicles in the county for garbage collection were reported to lack fuel hence unable to operate. Others were reportedly broken down.

Kitheka added that some of the vehicles were reported to be working in top government officials’ homes.

He argued that the only solution is for the county government to increase the number of vehicles used for collecting garbage in the county to ferry them to dump sites.
