The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has lauded Nakuru County government for its concerted efforts towards environment conservation.
NEMA Central Rift Region Director Thomas Mwandu said that Nakuru County is the only county among the 47 counties which has come up with an environment conservation strategy to protect its environment.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call to the County environment Executive Richard Kipsang’ on Friday at his office, Mwandu said that NEMA will work with the county government in protecting and conserving its lakes and forests.
“The county government has shown much commitment and seriousness in not only restoring the environment which had been degraded, but also in protecting the environment from pollution and further degradation. As NEMA we recognise what Nakuru is doing and we pledge to help Nakuru in every little way we can to see that environment is as safe as it should be,” said Mwandu.
On his part Kipsang’ said that their efforts to conserve the environment are not in vain since the results can be seen.
He attributed the decrease in pollution levels at both Lake Naivasha and Nakuru to the government’s efforts to protect the environment.
“When we came into office, Lake Naivasha was chocking with pollution but as we speak the lake has regained its glory and this has brought back tourists at the lake and we will not stop until we get where we want to be and we want to thank NEMA for their continued support they have extended to us as we try to keep our environment clean,” said Kipsang’.
