Besides conserving the water catchment areas, Uasin Gishu county government has expressed its commitment to meeting the 10 percent forest cover, this is through the planting of trees across the County.
On Tuesday, the Department of Environment led by the County Executive Mary Njogu and Chief Officer Simeon Kemei led a number of stakeholders in a tree planting exercise at the banks of Sosiani River.
Speaking during the exercise, Njogu called on the people across the county to take advantage of the ongoing rains to plant trees as a way of conserving the environment.
She further noted that the department will be working on ways of protecting planted trees on the river bank noting the destruction brought about by animals grazing on the piece of land.
This exercise comes to add muscle on the National Government's call on the need to increase the tree cover in the country due to the sensed danger of desertification.
