The Kakamega County government has opened a cancer center at the County General Teaching and Referral hospital.
Speaking on Thursday during the official launch of the facility, Deputy Governor Prof. Philip Museve called upon residents from the county to turn up for cancer screening, noting that it will facilitate effective treatment of the disease.
While thanking partners who joined hands with the County in realization of the project, Museve reaffirmed the county government's commitment to improving the healthcare provision.
"The health sector receives the highest allocation of funds in the county as compared to other sectors. This explains the county government's commitment to provide better health care to the residents," he noted.
He further announced plans extend cancer services to the sub-county level.
The launch of the facility saw area residents access free cancer screening of the breast and cervix, with the county announcing that the program would extend for two days.
Also present during the launch Makokha County Assembly Health committe Chairman Hon. Lucas Radoli, Health services Chief Officer Dr. Brenda Makokha who challenged residents to check on their lifestyle as a precaution in preventing cancer infections.
