Wajir County is rolling out a family planning programme as the arid devolved unit embarks on checking its population.
The programme championed by the county’s Health department aims at increasing awareness on the presence of family planning services in the county.
The programme is jointly run by the county Health department, the Kenya Muslim Youth Development Organisation and Save the Children International.
The Wajir County Family Planning Costed Implementation Plan 2017-2021 (FP-CIP) is a document that provides guidance for increased knowledge and access to family planning interventions allied to the Kenya National Family Planning Implementation Plan.
The plan emphasizes on increasing efforts to reach out to young people, women of productive age, families and communities with family planning information and services.
Some youth and reproductive women will be recruited to educate members of the public on the importance of family planning in the county that has seen a surge in population in the last twenty years.
Save the Children is among international organisations operating in Wajir which target to ensure children born have access to basic needs and are born to health mothers.
Governor Ahmed Abdullahi last in April said his government will prioritize healthcare service delivery during his second-term- if re-elected.He said the Health docket will receive more funding toward the establishment of new health facilities as well as for upgrading existent ones.
