The County Government of Nakuru is carrying out free cancer screening at all sub-county hospitals with the aim of establishing the cancer status of the county, health executive has said.
Speaking when he witnessed the exercise at the Molo sub county hospital, County Health Executive Daniel Mungai said that the screening will help in identifying how many people have cancer, at what stages and what types of cancers are more prevalent in the county.
He said that they have equipped all sub county hospitals with cancer testing and detecting equipment and are in the process of training more nurses in the field of cancer testing and detection.
“All our sub-county hospitals have cancer screening equipment and at the moment we are carrying out free cancer screening for one month so that we can establish the cancer status of the county. This will help us in identifying how many people are suffering from cancer and what type of cancers affects our people the most. We are also training more nurses and clinical officers in the field of cancer testing and detection so that we can hasten the process of cancer screening in all our hospitals,” said Mungai.
Mungai added that they will mainly focus on cancers affecting the reproductive systems of men and women because they are among the common and highly reported cases in the country,” he said.
