Nyamira Women Representative Alice Chae believes leaders from the county governments of Kisii and Nyamira should take the blame on persistent violence over Keroka market border row.
The border town has been experiencing unprecedented violence in the recent past with tax collectors from both sides embroiled in a tussle over the control of revenue.
Chae faulted county leaderships from either side for allegedly remaining hell bent in solving the escalating crisis.
“As leaders, we all have a prime role in solving such intrigues. However, it’s really sad that both county governments have remained reluctant in solving the crisis at the county level,” she said.
“The people orchestrating violence are employees of county governments and that means the best way we can approach the issue is first adopting the local approach which the county leaders are unwilling to embrace,” Chae added.
According to the former Egesa FM presenter, the two counties should constitute a committee of Members of county assembly and a team of professionals to address the matter.
“I don’t think the matter was that serious to deserve national attention," said Chae.
"The two county governments should own the unrest and constitute a committee of MCAs and neutral professionals to address the issue,” she said.
“We don’t want to see our hardworking people who have lived together in peace for all these years being dragged to petty boundary crisis," added Chae.
"I do believe the two county governments can settle on the best method of solving the border row rather than inciting innocent locals against each other,” she said.
She appealed to town residents to embrace peace and desist from engaging in unwarranted violence which has literally sabotaged the business.
“Our people living in that town should also take personal initiative by being tolerant to each other," she advised.
"They have lived peacefully before and the little misunderstandings of boundary should not make them engage in violence," said Chae.
