Uasin Gishu County Alcoholic Drinks and Control Board has stepped up efforts to ensure illicit liquor from neighboring Uganda does not find it says into the county's market.

Board's Director Silas Boit says they have enhanced their surveillance, especially on vehicles and lorries that transit to and from Uganda.

Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Boit further pointed out that the board had partnered with the police and other national government agencies in the fight against the illegal alcohol.

"We recently impounded two vehicles we suspect were being used in transporting those illegal alcoholic drinks from our neighboring country. Suspects have already been arraigned in court," Boit said.

"This is a fight that cannot be won by the county alone and this is why we are working closely with the police, Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and other government agencies to ensure our people are not exposed to alcohol that might harm them," he added.

There have been increased concerns over alcohol from Uganda usually packed in sachets that finds its way into Eldoret town.

According to the County Alcoholic Drinks and Control Board, the sachets are not approved for human consumption by relevant authorities.
