Pupils of Ritibo ECDE from Nyamira County will no longer learn in a leaking classroom following an announcement by the county government that it has set aside about Sh500,000 that will be used to build a new classroom.

Area MCA Ken Nyameino said the county had taken the initiative following complaints by area parents, who had raised concerns about the safety of their children.

Nyameino said the county government was in final stages of securing a contractor who would be required to finish the job before the end of June.

“The learners were taking classes in awful conditions and I am very happy that the county government has responded to our pleas. This is a massive step since about half a million shillings have been set aside,” he said.

“They are in the final process of securing a contractor who will be expected to expedite the process of construction. I am very optimistic that our children will study in environments which are conducive and that meet required standards,” he added.

He asked parents to take advantage of the facility and enroll more children since the county government had deployed an ECDE teacher to the station.

“I don’t see the reason why parents should not bring more children to the institution. We have a teacher who was deployed by the county government hence they should capitalise on the opportunity,” he said.
