The County government of Uasin Gishu is putting in place strategies aimed at ensuring more youths join Savings and Credit Co-Operatives (Sacco's).County Executive in charge of Cooperatives and Enterprise Development Esther Mutai says they will soon roll out sensitization campaigns across the county to ensure more youths join Sacco's and improve their livelihoods.Speaking in Eldoret town, Mutai expressed concerns that majority of Sacco members are the elderly."It's sad that with over 130 registered Sacco’s none belongs to the youths yet there are allot of funds meant for them. I will do all that I can to ensure youths join Sacco," she said on Thursday."I also have a radical strategy that when I attend a Sacco meeting and find it comprises of aging population I will close the meeting until they come with their children," added the County Executive.Similar sentiments were shared by the county cooperatives commissioner Roslyn Rai."We will conduct rallies and conference in the 30 wards where we will be targeting at least 20 youths in each ward. We will educate them on the importance of joining Sacco’s, how to apply and how to use the funds," she said.
