Kisumu artistes and have accused their county government of neglecting upcoming talents.
The artistes lashed out at the county executive for Tourism, Trade and Commerce, Dr Rose Kisia, for not empowering artistes through the allocation of funds.
Speaking during the Kisumu Artistes Network conference held at Goan Institute in Kisumu on Thursday, event organizer and promoter Aleki Alex said that the upcoming talents and artists from the lakeside county can be promoted through the allocation of funds by the county government towards their empowerment.
“We need to provide a sense of belonging in Kisumu and create job opportunities for the rising number of unemployed youth in our county and promote our local talents through empowering them,” said Aleki.
Aleki said that through such, the county government would curb idleness and promote self-reliance among the youth.
Vybez Awards winner Robert "Kysh" Ouko challenged Dr Kisia to help nurture, promote and market the upcoming talents.
“Counties like Nairobi,Machakos and Mombasa are really empowering upcoming talents by empowering and marketing them. This should be emulated by Kisumu,” said Ouko.
