County education chief officer Joseph Tanui said that holiday tuition is illegal is banned in all schools, including private ones. He said that his officers were on the lookout and warned school administrators who violate the directive that they risk being jailed.

“Let them be warned that they might go to prison if they are caught going carrying out holiday tuition,” said Tanui.

He said that he had information about some schools who were telling their students to dress in home clothes while some were using back gates.

The officer said that the children need to rest after the school term and called on school heads to respect the government’s decision.

“Our children need some rest. You cannot subject them to continuous learning and expect them to do well. Life is not all about passing exams,” added the officer.

He called on members of the public to report schools carrying on with the illegal tuition to his office for further action to be taken.
