A man said to be a Kwale County official has been arrested after allegedly receiving a one million shilling bribe from a Mombasa businessman.
Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Saturday laid a trap for the official who was identified as Fazul Gunda at the Naivas supermarket Nyali, where the deal took place.
Mr Gunda is said to have promised the businessman a road construction tender.
“The suspect had claimed that he was a senior officer at the Kwale County department of procurement. He will assist in revealing the names of other officials engaging in the vice,” said Mr Simon Cherpka, Southern Mombasa EACC boss.
Mr Cherpka said the suspect has allegedly been collaborating with other county officials to con unsuspecting businessmen.
Mr Gunda was detained at the Port police station and will be arraigned in court on Monday.
