Ednah Rotich from the county labour office says that several unscrupulous job agencies have camped in Nakuru town and are making good money from poor Kenyan youths who are desperate for jobs.

Speaking during a labour conference at a Nakuru hotel on Monday, Rotich called on job seekers especially the youth to carry out a background search about any job agency before enrolling with them.

“These agencies are aware of how people are desperate for jobs in this country and they have taken that as an opportunity to make money in the name of helping people get jobs. It is important to dig deeper into the activities of such agencies before believing whatever they tell you,” she said.

“Most of them will take your money and you will never see the job being promised. The county government is on the lookout and we will deregister agencies found to be conning Kenyans,” she added.

Job agencies have become a common thing in Kenya with most job seekers seeing them as the quickest and shortest way of landing a job.
