Senior officials from the Garissa County government paid a courtesy visit to the Garissa School of the deaf on early Monday afternoon.
Led by Governor Nathif Jama, the county officials donated foodstuffs to the school and further pledged to foot the salaries of the two teachers employed by the School Board of Management (BOM).
The two teachers working at the school are yet to be employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
"The Garissa County government will foot the bills and salaries of the teachers on board. We shall also ensure the school is awarded slots in the incoming employment by the TSC," said Jama.
Just last week, the TSC announced that it will hire 5000 teachers in 2016 to reduce the gaps existing in the various public schools across the country.
Garissa County is one of the regions in the country that has a very big teacher to student ratio, a fact attributed to the April 2015 Garissa University attack that saw an exodus of teachers who had been posted there by the TSC.
