An Ad hoc Committee formed by the Kisumu County Assembly has issued mandatory summons to two officers at the Kisumu county government to appear before them on Tuesday.
The Committee was formed by the Assembly to investigate claims that the Ward Development Fund (WDF) account at the Equity Bank had been interfered with.
The Chairperson of the Committee Pamela Omino said they have summoned the two officers; Cephas Kasera, Chief Officer Finance and George Anyong’a the WDF funds administrator.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Monday, Omino said they had invited the officers who are the signatories to the account but they failed to appear before them.
“We have powers to summons after the invitation was turned down by the two officers,” she said.
Committee Vice Chairman Joseph Osano said the money is public fund and they have the right to ask for the bank statements of the account.
Miwani Ward MCA Maurice Ondiek said it was unfortunate that several projects have not been implemented in the wards yet it’s a new financial year.
Ondiek said the Assembly has powers like the High Court and the two officers must respect the summons.
“Nobody can belittle this Committee, we have the oversight role and we will just do that,” he said.
