The count government of Nyamira could be losing millions of revenue to neighboring counties when officials hold special meetings, an aspiring MP has said.
Speaking at Kemera in a funeral ceremony on Thursday, Kitutu Masaba aspiring MP Victor Ogeto urged the county leadership to minimise the number of meetings done in various conference rooms outside the county at the expense of taxpayer.
He said many officials considered going to the neighboring Kisii and Kisumu for meeting yet the county enjoyed presence of world-class hotels and conference rooms.
“Let us stop wastage from the simple things like holding of meetings. Our officials consider using facilities in the neighboring counties yet we have enough in the county. They should boost our business people to make our county thrive. We cannot prosper if our local business people are not empowered,” he said.
Mr Ogeto challenged the county leadership to come up with a legislation that could see all official meetings held within the county as a major step towards improving the local economy.
“The county government should compel all officials to hold special meetings within as an advantage to the local business. The millions used in lodging and in Hotels should go to the local investors. They should lead by example to woo many investors,” he added.
