Residents of Matwigu Gem area in Elementaita ward, have appealed to the county Governmnet of Nakuru to step in and save the children of Matwigu ECD centre who are learning under deplorable conditions.
The centre, which was started in1978, has run down buildings with no access to clean water or electricity.
“We are still facing the challenge of structures as the ones we have are almost collapsing. We would like the county Government and area MP to pay us a visit and see for themselves,” said residents Gitau and Njambi.
Parents at the ECD also decried the lack of water at the institution, saying that the small children have to carry jerrycans of drinking water to school.
Despite the challenges, the parents have started a feeding program for the children to alleviate hunger and facilitate learning.
However, area MCA Moses Ndung'u said that the school had been factored in this year's financial budget allocations and called on the parents and residents to be patient as the issue is being addressed.
The MCA also donated 50kgs of rice and beans for the feeding program of the ECD.
