The county government of Uasin Gishu has directed traders operating from county markets to close down their businesses on the election's day.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday by the County Secretary Peter Lelei, the county has also banned the sale of alcohol beginning Wednesday 11 pm until the close of polling stations.

This is in a bid to ensure voters in the county seen as a key Jubilee stronghold participate in the repeat poll.

Lelei warned that those who will not adhere to the directive will face the full force of the law.

"All Bars/Restaurants will not be allowed to sell alcohol from today (dated 25th October 2017) from 2300hrs until or after the polls close," read part of the statement by the county secretary it added.

"This comes as an avenue to allow all people willing to exercise their democratic right of voting to do so and as well allow those who wish not to participate to pave way for the willing," it added.
