The county government of Uasin Gishu has invited applications for students who are willing to be funded so as to pursue Diploma in Technical Teacher education at the Kenya Technical Teachers College (KTTC).
In an advertisement in the local dailies also shared on the county social media platforms, the governor Jackson Mandago-led administration said it would give loans from its County Education Revolving Fund to interested students.
The funding will be for students seeking to specialize in Building and Civil engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering as well as Mechanical engineering (automotive/production engendering).
"As part of the continuous program to empower youth with technical skills, the county government of Uasin Gishu through County Education Revolving Fund intent to fund youth from the county to pursue a diploma in technical teacher education in conjunction with the Kenya Technical Teachers College (KTTC)," reads part of the advertisement.
"Successful applicants shall be funded from the County Education Revolving Fund as loan repayable upon gainful employment," it adds.
Already the county is sponsoring over 1,800 students pursuing technical courses at the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) in Eldoret town under the same initiative.
Speaking when he graced the RVTTI graduation on November 10, governor Mandago revealed that the county would support students willing to be technical teachers.
"With the national government setting up technical and vocational training institutions in constituencies more teachers will be needed and this is why my government will support top students graduating today to study Technical Teacher education at the Kenya Technical Teachers College (KTTC)," he said.
