In order to boost industrialisation in the county, the county government of Kisumu has put in place a raft of measures that will see the county grow manufacturing.
The devolved unit is aiming at creating 10,000 jobs annually, create wealth for the county economy and also nurture technical skills and know-how among the youth.
Furthermore, the county government is also aiming at promoting growth in the service industry and other supporting sectors.
As a result, a Special Economic Zone has been earmarked for development as a special economic zone by the World Bank.
The SEZ will house manufacturing, light industries, components and accessories processing as well as artisan and craft units.
According to Industrialization, Energy and Enterprise Development County Executive Mr Johnson Awuor, the county is also considering setting up an industrial park which offers wide range fiscal incentives that help in reducing start-up and operational costs thereby making exporters internationally price competitive.
Mr Awuor added that the county is also in the process of starting to explore mineral resources in the county including limestone deposits found in Koru and invest in cement manufacturing.
"As a county government, we are very much committed to making Kisumu an industrial hub in the region. We believe the measures we have crafted are going to work to our advantage," he said on Monday.
