The World Bank in partnership with the county government of Homa Bay and Lake Victoria Environmental Management Programme Phase three (LVEMP 111) plan to revamp sanitation and sewerage systems in the county. The program which will be designed in a period of one year aims at improving the sanitation and sewerage services in all major towns centers within Homa Bay County. Governor Cyprian Awiti says that the partnership intends to advance the environmental conditions through putting up modern sewerage systems and draining in the county. Addressing the press after meeting a delegation from the World Bank, Ministry of Environment and Lake Basin Development Commission, the governor revealed that they are planning to roll out phase three of sewerage systems after completing both phases one and two funded by the World Bank and other development partners. Governor Awiti says that the residents of Homa Bay had been suffering from poor sanitation due to improper disposal of liquid and solid wastes before the World Bank came in to contain the situation. Awiti pleaded with the development partners to consider improving water safe water supply, sanitation, and solid waste management as a way of eradicating water-borne diseases that have been a menace in the county.
