The county government of Nyamira has introduced a bill to the county assembly seeking approval to start a cash programme for the elderly and persons living with disabilities to help improve their living standards.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Nyamira town, County Executive member for Youths, Gender and Social Services Peter Omwanza said once the bill has been approved, every member of the targeted group will receive Sh1,000 a month.
“There is a bill in the county assembly and we expect it to be passed so that the elderly who are vulnerable and those living with disabilities get Sh1,000 from the county government every month to sustain their lives,” said Omwanza.
He also said the programme is part of the county government's bid to fulfill the 2013 pre-election pledges.
Omwanza challenged Nyamira residents to work with the county government in development to benefit more in development projects in the county.
