The county government of Uasin Gishu is contemplating initiating a process that will see all beggars removed from Eldoret town streets.

This comes even as Governor Jackson Mandago-led administration is working on moving all the street children to the rescue center.

According to deputy governor Daniel Chemno, removal of both beggars and street children from Eldoret town is aimed at creating a conducive environment for doing business and attracting more investors.

Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Monday, Chemno said some of the beggars, most of whom are disabled, have been 'imported' into the country by individuals out to use them for financial gains.

“We are condemning people importing disabled people from neighboring country to Kenya for the purpose of soliciting for money or begging on the streets,” Chemno said.

“We don't want to do what others are doing by killing a chicken or selling cows that cross to their places, we will take them back to where they are from because we want to maintain good relations with our neighbors,” he added.

Chemno further said beggars from within the country will also be reunited with their families so that they can be taken good care of.
