The county government of Kisumu has put in place measures to improve the state of infrastructure in the region.
This is meant to ensure the county develops at par with other major cities in the country and to ensure the impact of devolution in the region is felt by the residents at a faster rate.
The Kisumu government plans to develop a dry port within the city. The features of the proposed dry port will include storage and drying facilities as well as support facilities.
This investment will be operated under the build-own-operate-transfer framework.
According to the chief officer in-charge of Lands, Housing and Physical Planning Derrick Obura, the county government is negotiating with strategic investors to set up ferry and boat services, construct a shipyard and supporting rail system.
Obura also highlighted the commitment that the county government has in constructing low-cost houses through a public-private partnership.
‘The county government of Kisumu is determined to do all it can to improve the state of infrastructure in the county and to better the lives residents. We are currently engaging investors to see how this can be achieved’, said Obura on Thursday.
